We are still in. In response to the formal withdrawal of the United States from the Paris climate agreement, National Co+op Grocers (NCG) joins mayors and governors, colleges and universities as well as the mainstream business community in voicing a resounding “we are still in” to reassure the international community that a broad swath of Americans will continue to do our part to preserve a habitable climate. Together, we are forging ahead and doubling down on our commitment to help slow climate change.

While the U.S. will no longer be formally committed to the Paris agreement, NCG remains unwavering in our commitment to fulfilling the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals we have set to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and support smallholder farmers in developing countries, which tend to be most at risk for climate disruptions.

Climate change is one of the largest issues facing the business community today, and is particularly threatening to the food industry. NCG will continue to find ways to take climate action within our international supply chains, as we have with Co+op Forest, a United Nations accredited carbon offset program.

In addition, NCG encourages vendor and industry partners in the progressive food community to join us in making climate a priority by making specific commitments through the Climate Collaborative, an industry initiative formed to provide companies with networking opportunities, resources and peer recognition for their climate efforts. In cooperation, we can show the leadership necessary to make bold, innovative progress in areas where food companies are able to make the greatest impact. NCG is a founding member of the Climate Collaborative and has made commitments in the areas of agriculture, food waste and policy.

NCG will continue to advocate for sound federal policy on climate change. There are many individuals within federal agencies and on Capitol Hill working tirelessly to protect and invigorate federal climate policy. We thank them for their leadership and signal our support for their work.
