Reusable Bags with Proposition 65 Labels

Co+op reusable bags featuring the “we believe good food brings us together” print contain a label, sewn into the inside of each bag, which declares the presence of known carcinogens in the fabric of the bag. This label is commonly put on products in the state of California, per Proposition 65. Because the bag manufacturer, 1 Bag at a Time, is based in California the label is added to their bags during the manufacturing process, at the request of their California clients, even though the varieties of plastic in the bag are not on California’s list of chemicals that are known to have health risks.

For consumers, the label can raise questions about the safety of these bags. NCG has created talking points to assist co-ops in answering these questions.
