Congress is considering a voluntary-only GMO labeling bill, titled the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act (SAFLA) which would block mandatory GMO labeling at the state and national levels. Our partners refer to this bill as the DARK Act which stands for “Denying Americans the Right-to-Know.”  NCG opposes this bill and has created a toolkit of consumer-facing materials to assist interested co-ops in quickly raising a call to action and positioning their co-op as a leader on this issue.

SAFLA is expected to move through Congress relatively quickly, and because it has many Congressional supporters, could pass this year and ultimately become the law of the land. So far, the bill has been introduced to the House, and not yet to the Senate, which means time is on our side. Most toolkit materials require little-to- no staff time to produce and distribute.
