Most of us probably remember one or two stores we loved going to as kids. Most likely, one of those places offered a treat when you visited, like tootsie rolls at the bank or a cookie at the bakery. Co+op Explorers is a program that can help make your store a favorite (and healthy!) stop for kids in your community.
Co+op Explorers is a free fruit program for kids aged 12 and under. Based around simple membership materials like a “super official” membership card, temporary tattoos and a big shiny sticker, it invites kids to open their imagination to the world of co-ops and fresh foods. In addition to the introductory materials there are coloring pages and a Co+op Explorers Fruit and Veggies Passport for maximum fun!
In terms of program execution, we’ve prepared implementation recommendations and cost estimates as well as an array of promotional materials to use in-store, from posters and table tents to web banners and social media posts. This flexible program can be adjusted to suit the needs of your store, use just a few or all of the resources available.
“Parents are grateful, kids are surprised and delighted!” reports Whole Foods Market in Duluth, MN of their experience with the Co+op Explorers program. “Having a snack for the kids helps their parents focus on shopping and not get overwhelmed with requests for something to eat right now. Plus our aisles are narrow which is not family-friendly, so the program goes a long way to improve our image as a good place for families to shop.”
At New Leaf Market in Tallahassee, FL, over 500 children have signed up since Sept 2013. Their co-op reports, “In an ever-increasing competitive market, the program sets us apart from conventional grocery stores offering free cookies. Implementing the program was easy. We created a quick action plan and were able to launch the program in a matter of days. It’s been so successful that we are currently creating a TV commercial to further promote the program!”
