Congratulations to People’s Food Co-op (PFC) Natural Grocery & Deli in Kalamazoo, Mich., for being honored as the 2022 Kalamazoo Humanitarian Business of the Year, chosen unanimously by Humans of Kalamazoo.
Humans of Kalamazoo is a social platform founded in 2014 after a series of street interviews and photography went viral, loosely inspired by Humans of New York. It’s a neighborhood news aggregator, sharing both original photography, stories and perspectives of people in the Kalamazoo region, and the organizations that support them.
Each year since 2020, the editorial advisors of the platform pick a few remarkable individuals and/or groups to highlight and celebrate. The award was specifically in recognition of PFC’s efforts to provide space and resources to the unhoused people in need in the area, and “for the generosity and grace displayed by both the staff, and member shoppers, to assist nonprofits with the donations made each month and for all that was attempted and offered to support the unhoused and hungry for so long.”
