Social Responsibility Honor Spotlights Hanover Co-op’s Impact

Congratulations to Hanover Co-op Food Stores, which recently received the 2022 Cornerstone Award from New Hampshire Businesses for Social Responsibility (NHBSR).

NHBSR’s Cornerstone Award honors individuals and organizations that “exemplify the concepts of corporate social responsibility…and promote those concepts to the greater business community within the State of New Hampshire.”

The award recognizes the co-op’s initiatives, which include: the creation and continued support of Willing Hands food rescue efforts; founding the Pennies for Change program (which recently surpassed $1 million in donations raised for area nonprofits); the Co-op Car Connections initiative serving low-income drivers; subsidizing the purchase of reusable crates for local farmers; recognition from the EPA’s GreenChill initiative for environmental stewardship; and efforts in food waste diversion.

“The cooperative model is built on concern for community,” Hanover Co-op Director of Public & Government Relations Allan Reetz said when accepting the award. “The actions and principles of the Hanover Co-op remain as strong today as they were at its founding in 1936. The employees and our member-owners make our good work possible.”

Hanover Co-op serves the Upper Valley region of New England. The co-op’s operations include three full-service grocery stores, a market and a production kitchen, in addition to two auto service centers.
